When white labels of “Dancing In The Dark” began circulating among DJs in late ’84, no one was prepared. Its official release in early ’85 changed the scene overnight. Mike Mareen and Chris Evans-Ironside delivered something radically futuristic: melancholic, vocoder-soaked vocals over a razor-sharp electro arrangement that didn’t chase charts, it ruled clubs worldwide. From London to Tokyo, one bassline drop hooked DJs, crowds, and the entire underground, even spreading where it wasn’t supposed to exist.
Forty years later, the spell is unbroken. The track still fuels indie dance, italo, wave, house, and deep-house sets, endlessly re-edited and treasured by DJs as one of Mareen’s defining works.
To mark its 40th anniversary, Vintage Pleasure Boutique and Night’n Day Records unveil a special vinyl reissue featuring four brand-new remixes spanning today’s underground: Tallac’s emotional deep-house roller, Luksek’s raw dancefloor weapon, Flemming Dalum’s electro-italo masterstroke, and A.P. Mono’s glittering disco-synthwave blend. The release also includes two essential classics: the 1985 Jens Lissat’s team team remix and Luis Rodriguez’s original arrangement.
“Dancing In The Dark” still moves bodies and lights up floors. For indie, italo, wave, house, or disco DJs, this record isn’t optional. It’s mandatory.
